What is the Cape Light Compact? In 1997, Massachusetts Legislature passed the “Electric Utility Industry Restructuring Act” to introduce competition to the electric industry. All 21 Cape and Vineyard towns formed the Cape Light Compact to be able to procure a competitive power supply contract for the region. The idea is that as a group of 197,000 ratepayers, we have more leverage to get good power prices than individuals do on their own.
One of the Cape Light Compact's goals is to provide stable prices and lower costs for all customers. As our power purchaser, they also offer a green power option, “Cape Light Compact Green”. The present resource mix for this program is 1% solar, 24% biomass and wind and 75% low-impact hydro.
They also provide the energy efficiency and energy conservation services in our region.
